About Ashley Graczyk

Why Vote Ashley for Lothian?

Ashley Graczyk is an Independent Councillor for the City of Edinburgh representing the Sighthill-Gorgie ward.

First elected to office in 2017 as a Conservative Party Councillor, Ashley was shocked to see the impact of a number of UK Government policies on disabled and vulnerable people first hand through case work in her constituency. This experience as well as a growing recognition of the importance of self-governance for Scotland led her to resign from the Conservative Party in July 2018. She is pro-independence and pro-European and proudly serves her community as an independent.

The first profoundly deaf Councillor elected to the City of Edinburgh Council, Ashley campaigns against student development proposals - many targeting Gorgie Dalry area, campaigns on equality and disability rights issues, and leads a Keep Gorgie Clean campaign. She believes in social, economic and civic inclusion for all. She is also passionate about the arts and culture and is committed to creating communities that work for everyone.

She is the Founder of HAGSA (Housing And Green Space Activism), Housing Activism,  Saughton House, Sightpark HouseCommon Weal Edinburgh South West, Ideate Scotland and a member of Women for Independence National Committee.

Ashley is a qualified Hair Stylist and Makeup Artist and loves vintage fashion! She volunteers a few hours each week doing free hair cuts for a local charity in Broomhouse area.

Ashley is also from a mixed race family with Scottish, Polish and African roots. She was born at the Edinburgh Royal Maternity Hospital, spent her childhood years in Gorebridge, her teenage years in Lasswade, and once lived in Dalkeith for 5 years. She has family connections in Edinburgh, Dalkeith, Bonnyrigg, Mayfield, Ormiston, Gorebridge and Linlithgow. She currently lives in Edinburgh.
