Housing Activism

Edinburgh is crying out for more affordable homes and we believe we should all be looking to deliver more affordable housing for our communities and for the next generation – and that includes students.

Much more needs to be done in policy change to encourage developers to put forward planning proposals that will prioritise the needs of local people and communities rather than maximising profits.

If you are interested in getting involved and helping out in any way with Housing Activism initiative, please get in touch.

Saughton House

Saughton House is a community greenspace initiative mainly based in Saughton Mains and Stenhouse area with various projects to create functional greenspaces for people to use and enjoy.

We believe regular access to greenspace and the outdoors can bring communities together, improve individuals' physical and mental well-being and reconnecting with nature.

Common Weal Edinburgh South West

Common Weal is a people-powered think and do tank in Scotland.

For 40 years Scotland has suffered from ‘me first’ politics – and we all came second. Politics has made a few extremely wealthy and left the rest suffering from low pay, insecurity, declining public services and fragmented communities.

Common Weal develop policy on and campaign for social and economic equality, for wellbeing and the environment, for quality of life, for peace and justice.

Our local group covers Edinburgh South West.

Ideate Scotland

Ideate Scotland is a neutral platform and safe space for public debate events.

The ability to create, present, and evaluate ideas for an alternative and better future remains integral to democracy and modern societies, including a new Scotland. Public debate helps us to reflect on the status quo and celebrate progress, but to also challenge issues for the betterment of ourselves and society as a whole.

To find innovating and practical solutions for current issues such as, automation, currency, climate change, local democracy, and many more. And for those observing debates, they see citizens reasoning, listening, responding, and fundamentally respecting one another. Our aim is to work, discuss, debate and ideate together to build a better Scotland into reality.

Our public debate events include various themes from think tanks, politicians, academics, experts and inspiring people, plus Q&A.
